How to get good at BOLTCADE
All four games take seconds to start and reward a little thought. Below is how each one actually scores, the mistakes that quietly end a run, and the habits that turn a lucky streak into a personal best. None of this is required to enjoy the games — it is here for when you want to climb.
Drift — the word-ladder race
You start on a live five-letter word and must type a real word that changes exactly one letter, in place. Every valid word extends your chain and adds a few seconds back to the clock, so the game is a race against your own vocabulary rather than a fixed number of guesses.
Lean on vowels. The fastest branches usually come from swapping the vowel: CARE → CORE → CURE. When you feel stuck, run the vowel slot through A, E, I, O, U in your head before touching consonants. Work the ends. First and last letters tend to have the most valid neighbours, so words ending in common letters keep more doors open. Rarer letters pay more. Landing a J, Q, X or Z as your changed letter is worth extra, so if a high-value swap is available it is usually the better play. Keep moving. The clock rewards momentum over the perfect word — a quick, safe change beats a long, clever pause.
Triad — the triple-merge puzzle
Triad looks like a familiar sliding puzzle, but the rule is different: tiles fuse only when three of a kind line up in the direction you slide, and a fresh tile drops in after every move. That one change rewrites the strategy.
Build in threes, not pairs. A leftover pair does nothing on its own, so plan to feed it a third rather than stranding it in a corner. Pick a home direction. Favour two sides (say, down and left) so your biggest tiles gather in one region and small tiles have room to arrive. Set up chains. Because a fusion can immediately combine with more of the same value in the same slide, stacking three low tiles behind three higher ones lets a single move cascade into a big jump. Protect a lane. Keep one row or column loose so you always have a move; a full board with no triples is how a run ends.
Hunt — the target search
You are shown a target up top with a count, then must tap every copy hidden among near-identical decoys before the timer empties. Knowing the target is the twist — the crowd exists to hide it.
Read colour before shape. Your eye separates hue faster than fine detail, so filter the grid by the target’s dominant colour first, then confirm the shape. Sweep, don’t dart. Scan row by row like reading a page rather than jumping around; a steady sweep misses fewer than a panicked hunt. Use your periphery. An odd one often “pops” at the edge of vision before you consciously find it. Bank time, then breathe. Early levels are generous — clear them cleanly to build a time cushion for the dense grids later, where one wrong tap costs a life.
Aperture Snap — precision timing
A ring of light expands from the lens; you fire the shutter the instant it crosses the focus ring. Timing is graded Perfect, Sharp, Soft or Miss, and Perfect/Sharp shots build a combo multiplier.
Find the rhythm. The ring expands at a steady rate within a level, so let the first one or two passes set your internal metronome, then fire on feel. Aim early, not late. Most players react a hair slow; nudging your press slightly ahead of where it “feels” right lands more Perfects. Guard the chain. A Soft shot survives but resets your combo, so when you are unsure it is often better to commit to a clean Sharp than to hesitate into a Miss. Respect the stop-down. As your f-stop climbs the window narrows — expect it, and tighten your timing rather than forcing the old rhythm.
Frequently asked questions
Are the games really free?
Yes. Every game on BOLTCADE is free to play in your browser, with no paywall, no trial, and no in-game purchases.
Do I need an account or a download?
No. There is nothing to install and no sign-up. Open the page and play — on a phone, tablet, or computer.
How does sharing my score work?
Each game ends on a result card with a Share button. It copies a short, spoiler-free summary to your clipboard, or opens your device’s share sheet on mobile, so you can drop it into a chat.
Are my scores saved?
Scores and streaks are kept only for your current session in this build. Closing the tab clears them.
Are these original games?
Yes. All four are built in-house and each bends a familiar format into a distinct rule of its own, rather than cloning an existing title.
